Woman on fire...

'Boudica'

I drew this illustration of Boudica for an Art of Brains competition for their latest limited edition beer. It didn't win but I knew it would be a fun thing to draw so I thought it was worth a go.

They wanted an image that was fierce, powerful and strong and rather than going for an obvious battle pose or something more dynamic I wanted to show a woman fully in command of who she is and what she's fighting for. Strength comes from within her and radiates out - a powerful native queen - unstoppable and proud.

Boudica is famous for burning down three Roman cities and so here she is bathed in the fire-glow of her victories as the wind howls around her.

I love drawing hair blowing in the wind and this was the perfect excuse for it!

I love this image so much and just looking at it reminds me of the power and strength that woman everywhere posssess.
