Practicing Pyrography

My wonderful boyfriend bought me a pyrography pen for Christmas and I finally got around to trying it out this week - and it is awesome!

After testing out all the different tips I thought I'd have a go at doing a proper picture. As is quite often the case my first idea was a castle by the sea. It was a good opportunity to try out different lines and textures. I think the trees look particularly good in this style.

Sticking with the fantasy theme I thought I'd do a fairy glen. I added in a deer because whilst researching pyrography styles I found that animals and fur look really good in this medium. I also had another go at trees because they were fun to do.

Next I had a go at a  seascape with a lighthouse. I've always loved lighthouses and it was a good way of practicing straight lines and also some shading. I think the waves could do with some work but I do like how the clouds turned out.

Finally I thought I'd have ago at something more realistic. I recently saw a harvest mouse in real life (they are SO SMALL!) and I wanted to try my hand at proper fur. I really like this picture, and though it's by no means perfect I'll definitely be doing more things like this in the future.
