I'm not making many cakes these days because I want to focus more time on my art, however my boyfriend turned 40 recently so I made him a special birthday cake. He's a fan of the Arizona Cardinals so made a cake of their logo. I have to say I'm super proud of how neat this cake is! It's definitely one of my favourites! I can't believe I haven't posted on here since January! This is mostly because I've been making a lot of cake!
The new year was book-ended by a lot of cake! Below is a quick rundown of each one and there are more photos of each cake on my Cakes page.
I've had a busy summer in the cake making department! I've made a princess, several cars, trolls, flowers and some sheet music from scratch! Below is a photo of each cake, but if you'd like to see more detailed photos and the story behind each one please head over to my Cakes page. Although I had lots of fun making all of these cakes it was sad doing each one without my little Sadie to help clean up after me. Also, now that she's gone I've realised how much mess I male when I'm baking! x x
Although I haven't been creating much in the way of art I have made a few cakes. First there were my two Christmas cakes which were a bit simpler this year as we went away for Christmas and they needed to travel. Then I made a cake featuring a Mini for a birthday. I'm pretty proud of my Mini cake. The inside of the Mini is made from polystyrene to keep it light and keep a more solid shape. You can see more photos of these on my Cakes page. Now it's time to get back to art!
A few weeks back it was my birthday and I was so jealous of the Rapunzel cake I made for someone else that I decided to make a princess cake for myself! It was a toss up between Belle and Mulan, but after looking for inspiration on the internet I noticed that there were practically no Mulan cakes so I figured I would make the first one! I took some artistic license with her dress by adding some little flourishes. It was lots of fun to make, and proof that you are never too old to have a princess birthday cake!
Below is a little video of how she was made. Please try to ignore the massive mess in the background! I'm not really one of those clean-it-up-as-you-go bakers, I'm more of a make-a-whole-lot-of-mess-then-deal-with-it-later kind of baker (much to my Mum's eternal dismay!) I love everything about this cake but I have to say the bit I'm most proud of is her hair! That's a five stranded plait right there! With five tiny little plaits all mixed in! Plaiting level: Ninja!
Recently I made my first giant cupcake for a 50th birthday. To decorate it I made a pair of bra and knickers, boots and a handbag out of icing. The main body of the cake is ringed in chocolate fingers and tied with a ribbon. I bought a new icing tip to create my first rose pattern icing and finished the whole thing off with little silver balls. It was a fun cake to make, and the cake mix was particularly yummy (the cake itself was chocolate). I'm pretty proud of this cake, and I'm told it was thoroughly enjoyed by all. You can see more of my cake creations on my Cakes page.
