A little horse box.

My sister had her 30th birthday recently and I wanted to make her something special. I bought a plain wooden box and pyrography-ed a design featuring both of her horses on the top. It was much harder than I thought it would be as the grain in the wood was very pronounced. This made it hard to get a straight and even line. I also had some issues with sap seeping out of the wood and preventing a good burn. However I'm pretty happy with the design and the coat of varnish finished it off nicely. All in all a very pretty box I'd say!

A rose by any other name. . . is a table!

One of my latest commissions for Bhodi Furnishings was a set of two tables that would become a matching pair. They started off with bare wood tops and silver metal legs; one had three drawers , the other didn't.

After sanding them down and giving them a coat of primer they were ready to be Art-Bunnied (I new term I just made up. I'm rather proud of it).

First thing to do was paint both the tables black (for clarity I will name them drawer table and rose table). I decided to paint the entirety of the drawers rather than just the front as I felt it looked better to have no bare wood showing.
Next up I had to paint little gypsy-style roses on the drawers. To keep a uniform shape and size I made two stencils for the roses - one for the outline and one so that the inner details would be in the same place on each rose. The red paint I used to paint the roses goes on an alarming shade of hot pink and as it took quite a while to dry and darken I was a little bit worried that the roses were going to stay that colour! They did eventually turn red though and I think the look pretty good!
The rose table was to have it's own gypsy rose but this time one great big one right on the top! I really like how this table turned out; it's going to make a great statement piece.
The legs I spray painted with matt black metal paint. My lovely boyfriend found me a perfect sized box that became a little spray painting booth.
These are the finished tables! There were a lot of different parts to these two pieces and some fun design work too. I'm very pleased with how they turned out. They weren't half heavy though!
This piece was painted with the following Farrow and Ball colours:
Rectory Red/Pitch Black
